Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: Part 2

Bilingualism In America

It is hard to believe that, according to the Pew Research Center, more than 13% of the U.S. population speaks Spanish and is home to the world's second-largest population of native Spanish speakers after México.

The way the data is trending, by 2050, one in three people in the U.S. will speak Spanish (this data includes bilingual people who also speak English).

With such compelling data about the number of Spanish speakers, it's no wonder governments, organizations, and brands are working to make sure they include them.

However, there is still a lot of work to be done to bridge the language gap in every system in America. The need for bilingual staff and healthcare interpreters has been in high demand for the last decade. We are still working to try and catch up on appropriate education, ethics, competencies, and standards for working as bilingual employees or full-time interpreters.

Employers are quickly learning that hiring a bilingual staff will require a different job description and skill set, to ensure bilingual services have quality standards. This is exciting news to organizations like Culture Journey LLC, one of the few organizations dedicated to providing consulting and training in this area.

Torres Family: Alexis, Emily, Adalyn, Alexander, Angelo, Jose, Victoria, Alan, Megan, and Sarai.

We are working hard to ensure the Latinx community has appropriate representation and opportunities to thrive. At the same time we are providing organizational and technical support and reaping the benefits of hiring bilingual employees or full-time interpreters that will become champions to effectively engage with our communities!

We are excited to collaborate with organizations like Community Services League and others to bridge the language access and education gap to ensure our communities have the opportunities they deserve.

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, let's remember the contributions of this community to America and look forward to the future of becoming a more inclusive nation.
