Get Help Paying for Groceries

Groceries are expensive. If it is getting harder to keep food on the table, SNAP may be able to help.

SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It used to be called food stamps. SNAP gives eligible households monthly benefits on an EBT card, which works like a debit card at many grocery stores and other approved places.

What is SNAP?

SNAP helps people buy food.

If approved, you receive money each month on an EBT card. You can use the card to buy groceries at stores that accept EBT. SNAP lets families choose the foods that work best for them.

SNAP may help:

  • Families with children

  • Older adults

  • People with disabilities

  • People who are working

  • People who recently lost income

  • Individuals living on a limited income

You may still qualify even if you have a job.

What You May Need

Each household is different. You may be asked for things like:

  • Photo ID

  • Proof of income

  • Pay stubs, if working

  • Household information

  • Address

  • Bank account information, in some cases

Do not let missing paperwork stop you from asking for help. CSL can help you understand what may be needed. Harvesters notes that photo ID is often a main document, while other documents depend on the household situation.
