Terry & Betty Snapp - 2025 Legacy Award Recipients

Community Services League is proud to announce that Terry and Betty Snapp have been selected by our Board of Directors as the recipients of the 2025 Legacy Award.

Terry and Betty have been remarkable partners to Community Services League, combining generous financial support with hands-on leadership and genuine care for their community.

A Foundation of Generous Support

Their belief in CSL’s mission has been evident through Betty’s leadership of CSL’s Brighter Futures Capital Campaign, which made the Noland Road facility possible. Their leadership also extended to serving as founding members and the inaugural chairs of the Bess Wallace Truman Society (BWTS). Their giving reflects both vision and consistency: as 1916 Club members since 2016, they have provided steady monthly support for more than a decade.

Betty was a founding member of the Coalition of Women Helping Children, which is an ad hoc group of women supporting CSL’s programs that impact local children. This Coalition, which helped grow CSL’s Tennies for Kids program, continues today as a driving force behind CSL’s annual Fashion for Compassion fundraiser. This single initiative has raised more than $400,000 to support children and families.

Building Community One Meal at a Time

Perhaps no program better illustrates Terry and Betty’s commitment than the Neighborhood Dinner Program, which began from their personal desire to serve others and grew into one of CSL’s signature initiatives.

What started in 2009 as a monthly meal prepared in their own kitchen quickly expanded as more people were drawn to their welcoming approach. When their home could no longer accommodate the program, they moved operations to Stone Church in Independence. There, Betty faithfully managed meal preparation while Terry greeted every guest and volunteer with genuine warmth and gratitude. Terry’s ability to make everyone feel valued created an atmosphere where participants not only received a meal—they experienced true community.

Under their leadership, the program grew to serve nearly 250 people each week. In 2019, recognizing its importance, they transitioned the program to CSL’s care, ensuring its continuity for generations to come.

Leaders in Their Communities

Beyond CSL, Terry and Betty have made lasting contributions through professional and volunteer service.

  • Professionally, Betty founded and served with distinction as Executive Director of the Sunshine Center in Independence, improving the lives of countless families navigating children’s special needs. Betty was a highly-regarded nonprofit executive director and made Sunshine Center a trusted community resource.

  • Terry served as Executive Director of the Truman Medical Center Foundation, where he advanced healthcare initiatives that strengthened wellness throughout the Kansas City region. He also served as a consultant to countless organizations to enhance their fundraising capacity in his role with Hartsook Companies (now Kinetic).

An Enduring Legacy

Terry and Betty Snapp represent the best of community partnership. They have created programs that serve real needs, inspired others through their example, and ensured their impact will continue through thoughtful planning. Their story demonstrates how dedication, practical action, and generous hearts can create positive changes that touch countless lives and strengthen entire communities.

They embody the mission and values of CSL, continuing the tradition of compassion begun by our founders in 1916.
