CSL's Community Mobility Model
At Community Services League, we believe lasting change happens when people have both the support they need today and the opportunities they need for tomorrow.
Our Community Mobility Model helps individuals and families move from crisis to stability and from stability to opportunity through four connected strategies:
Immediate Support
We help meet urgent needs through food assistance, housing support, utility assistance, medical services, and other essential resources.
Coaching & Navigation
Our coaches work alongside individuals and families to identify goals, overcome barriers, and connect to the resources and opportunities that help them move forward.
Whole-Family Success
We use a family-centered, two-generation approach that recognizes the connection between the success of children, parents, and caregivers.
Opportunity & Growth
Through career services, financial coaching, affordable housing, and community development initiatives, we help create pathways toward long-term stability and economic mobility.
Together, these strategies help individuals and families build stronger futures while strengthening the communities we serve.
Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow. Pathways for the Future.
CSL's Community Mobility Model
Moving from Crisis to Stability to Opportunity
At Community Services League, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to build a stable, successful future.
For more than 110 years, CSL has worked alongside neighbors facing challenges such as food insecurity, housing instability, financial hardship, unemployment, and homelessness. Through experience, we have learned that lasting change rarely comes from a single service or one-time intervention.
That is why CSL utilizes a Community Mobility Model—a comprehensive approach designed to help individuals and families move from crisis to stability and from stability to opportunity.
Our work focuses on creating pathways forward, helping people overcome barriers, build strengths, and achieve their goals.
What is Community Mobility?
Community mobility is the process of helping individuals and families improve their economic well-being, increase stability, and create greater opportunities for future generations.
Rather than simply addressing immediate needs, community mobility focuses on helping people build the resources, skills, relationships, and opportunities necessary to thrive.
At CSL, community mobility means supporting people at every stage of their journey while recognizing that progress is rarely linear and often requires multiple forms of support.
Pillar One: Immediate Support
Every journey begins with stability.
When families face a crisis, immediate assistance can prevent a temporary setback from becoming a long-term hardship.
CSL provides support that helps meet urgent needs, including:
Food assistance
Housing stabilization services
Utility assistance
Medical support services
Homelessness response and prevention
Connections to essential community resources
These services provide relief during difficult moments and create the foundation necessary for future progress.
Pillar Two: Coaching and Navigation
Support alone does not create lasting change.
CSL's coaching approach focuses on building trusted relationships with individuals and families. Our coaches work alongside participants to identify strengths, establish goals, overcome barriers, and develop personalized plans for success.
Through coaching, participants gain:
Goal-setting support
Resource navigation
Problem-solving strategies
Accountability and encouragement
Connections to opportunities and services
This relationship-centered approach helps transform short-term assistance into long-term progress.
Pillar Three: Whole-Family Success
Strong families create strong communities.
CSL recognizes that challenges and opportunities rarely affect just one individual. Employment, housing, childcare, education, transportation, and financial stability are interconnected within families.
Through a whole-family approach, CSL works with both children and adults to strengthen household stability and create opportunities for future success.
Our work incorporates two-generation strategies that support parents and caregivers while also creating positive outcomes for children. By helping entire households move forward together, we create stronger and more sustainable results.
Pillar Four: Opportunity and Growth
The ultimate goal of community mobility is opportunity.
CSL invests in programs and partnerships that help individuals build skills, increase income, strengthen financial security, and achieve greater independence.
These efforts include:
Career coaching and workforce development
Industry-recognized training and credentials
Financial coaching and asset building
Affordable housing development
Community revitalization initiatives
These opportunities help individuals and families move beyond surviving toward thriving.
Building Stronger Communities
Community mobility is about more than individual success.
When families achieve stability, neighborhoods become stronger. When neighborhoods become stronger, communities become healthier, more resilient, and more prosperous.
That is why CSL combines direct service, coaching, housing, workforce development, and community partnerships into a single model designed to create lasting impact.
Partnership Drives Progress
No single organization can create community mobility alone.
CSL partners with schools, employers, healthcare providers, faith communities, foundations, businesses, government agencies, and individual donors to help create pathways of opportunity throughout Eastern Jackson County.
Together, we are helping neighbors overcome barriers, achieve stability, and build brighter futures.
Because community mobility is not just about helping people get through today.
It is about helping them move toward tomorrow.
