Facing an immediate shutoff or eviction? Contact your utility provider or landlord first. You may also call 211 for other resources.

Before You Apply

A few quick checks can help you submit the right information and avoid delays.

Check the basics

  • Review the eligibility and service-area information provided with the application.
  • Make sure the lease, rent statement or utility account identifies someone in your household.
  • Use an email address and phone number you check regularly.

Know what to expect

  • Assistance depends on eligibility and the funding available when your request is reviewed.
  • CSL may contact you for additional information or documents.
  • Continue communicating with your landlord or utility provider while your request is under review.

Important: Submitting a request does not guarantee financial assistance or stop an eviction, shutoff or collection action.

Rent & Utility Assistance FAQs

Select a question to learn more about the application and review process.

Does submitting an application guarantee assistance?

No. Assistance depends on program eligibility, complete documentation and the funds available when your request is reviewed.

Can CSL pay my entire past-due balance?

The amount available varies by household, program and funding source. If your request is approved, CSL will explain what assistance can be provided.

Can I request both rent and utility assistance?

You may use the appropriate application for each type of help currently available. Each request is reviewed separately and assistance is not guaranteed.

How long will the review take?

Review times depend on application volume, documentation and available funding. Watch your email, phone and voicemail in case CSL needs additional information.

What if my eviction or shutoff date is very close?

Include the deadline and upload any notices with your request. Because same-day assistance cannot be guaranteed, continue contacting your landlord, utility provider and other community resources.

Can I apply if CSL has helped me before?

Eligibility for repeat assistance varies by program and funding source. Complete the current application or contact CSL for guidance.

How is approved assistance paid?

When assistance is approved, payment is generally made directly to the landlord, property manager or utility provider—not to the applicant.

How will I know if CSL needs more information?

A CSL team member will use the phone number or email address included in your request. Respond promptly to avoid delays.
